: Uh oh, slacker alert!
Looks like I've been slacking it again with no entries! Lucky I'm bored shitless tonight then isn't it? :)
What have I been up to? All sorts of things really. Probably the highlight was the day a couple of weeks ago where my poor dog got sick and crapped/vomited all over the laundry, and my lawn mower man dumped me! That's right, apparently our job was "too hard". Our lawnmower man is a very odd bloke, he seemed to find it very difficult to ring the night before a mow to check I'd be home so I could take the dog in and let him out the back. Good riddance to him I say! If only I knew where he lived so my dog could crap on his front door step :)
Probably the only other really interesting thing I've done is go to some Perth Festival events, with the two standout events being:
La Veillée des Abysses
http://www.perthfestival.com.au/festiva l/index.cfm/fuseaction/events.detail/pkE vent/104320/pkEventCategory/101045
Tim Minchin: Darkside
http://www.perthfestival.com.au/festiva l/index.cfm/fuseaction/events.detail/pkE vent/104664/pkEventCategory/101078
The first event is hard to describe, it's really a sequence of nonsense events involving acrobatics, drama, slapstick and sheer whimsy! But it was absolutely fantastic and Gallic :)
Tim Minchin was awesome, basically a cabaret with singing and comedy, with little bits of his life sewn in. Very enjoyable, visit http://www.timminchin.com now :)
I also went to a political discussion on the current state of freedom in Australia by Frank Moorehouse, which promised to be quite interesting, but was let down by someone with fairly average public speaking skills and a very rough general outline. I still enjoyed it however as I like thought provoking pieces. It was interesting to find out just how similar the Aust Govt was to the USA in chasing Communists in the 1950s - with freedom of information laws providing insights into the crap they collected and neighbours spying on neighbours. And did you know that until 1970 Australia had the worst censorship laws in the world basically, with no mention of sex in any book, so many classics were banned it was amazing! But I felt really he didn't go into the current issues we see now enough.
So where do we draw the line on free speech? Should an Iman be allowed to promote the view of Australia becoming a Muslim state? I'd argue yes, even if I don't want it to happen. Should they be allowed to say that all non-Muslims are cockroaches and should be eliminated? No. And that's why just recently a UK cleric who did exactly that was sent to jail for over 10 years, as it's an incitement to violence and hate. Interesting times we live in.
Finally, how could I end a Perth blog without a comment on ex-Captain Benny? Jesus, grow up son. You got the warning last year and you didn't listen. To be frank I'm sure we've all made the mistake of driving when we shouldn't, but when you're already well in the shit, you want to be a lot more careful on what you do. If Juddy is the Captain to hold up the Brownlow and the Premiership Cup this year you're going to be a very sorry lad! But I'm over the Benny jokes now folks, stop sending them please :)
